Wine, cheese and laughter!
In mid-June, Arcadia Group invited residents and friends to a series of afternoon wine and cheese gatherings at four of our Arcadia Waters Retirement villages – Bicton, Maddington, Mandurah and Swanbourne.
Themed ‘East vs West’ Arcadia’s very own wine connoisseur, Ross Dunning, from its Rylands properties in Victoria attended each village as the special guest to host and present a selection of excellent red and white wines for residents to taste and rate.
In the red category, they included a delightful Mount Pleasant Philip Shiraz from the Hunter Valley and a beautiful Woodlands Cabernet Merlot from Margaret River.
The whites included stand-outs like a Little Yerring Chardonnay from the Yarra Valley and a Wills Domain Semillon Sauvignon Blanc from Margaret River.
Creating an electric atmosphere residents, friends, visitors and staff had a lot of fun comparing the wines. There was much debate at each table as people swirled, sloshed and exchanged opinions on colour, bouquet and taste.
The results of each round of tastings were recorded to determine whether residents had a parochial preference for our home-grown WA varieties, or something from an interstate vineyard.
Interestingly, the results were fairly well balanced between the two with no clear regional winner. It just goes to show that, like many things, people’s choice in wine depends largely on their personal tastes and preferences.
Widely regarded by everyone as one of the best village events ever held, it is likely that this may well become an annual occasion on the Arcadia Waters villages’ social calendar.
